Promote communal harmony-Chief Minister

by Tilak Ekanayake

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said as members of the Central Provincial Council elected by the people, they should forget petty differences and work together to cater to the people's welfare and promote communal harmony in the region as a matter of priority.

Ekanayake addressing the media shortly after the inaugural meeting of the Central Provincial Council, said yesterday it was also a unique reason because the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the Council were elected uncontested for the first time in the council's history.

This unanimity among all Central Provincial Council members was an approval of the people friendly program of work implemented by the UPFA Government in spite of the UPFA receiving a clear majority in the council, other parties too had rallied round to lend support to it and this was a good omen for the future, he said.
