One killed, 68 injured in Bangladesh cinema blast

DHAKA, Friday (AFP) One person was killed and 68 injured Thursday when a bomb exploded at a crowded cinema hall in Bangladesh, state-run media reported.

The explosion is the third in recent months in the northeastern city of Sylhet, 176 kilometers (110 miles) from the capital Dhaka.

State-run television station BTV said another bomb was recovered by police before it exploded at a second cinema.

Police and local administration officials visited the scene of the blast late Thursday, it said. In June, an explosion killed one person and injured about 50 others in Sylhet, including a number of local politicians from the opposition Awami League.

A month earlier, a bomb at a mosque in the city killed three people and injured scores more, including the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Anwar Choudhury.

Government officials were not immediately available for comment on Thursday's blast.
