Typhoon Rananim leaves 63 dead, 15 others missing HANGZHOU, Friday (Xinhua) Typhoon Rananim, the 14th this year, had claimed at least 63 lives and left another 15 people missing as of zero hour Friday in east China's Zhejiang province, said a source with Zhejiang Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters early Friday. Rananim, which landed at Shitang town of Wenling city at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, also injured more than 1,800 people and 185 of them seriously, and flattened more than 18,300 houses. Typhoon Rananim brought hurricane, or the powerful wind 12 on Beaufort scale, to the sea area off Zhejiang and areas south of Taizhou, and north of Wenzhou and Ningbo in the province. The typhoon-incurred rainstorms pelted Taizhou and Wenzhou prefectures. Rainfall of more than 100 millimeters was reported in the aforementioned areas and southern Shaoxing and Ningbo regions and northern Lishui areas between 8:00 a.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Friday, according to the provincial meteorological station. |
