BOI agreement for Lanka's first private domestic helicopter service Daya Aviation (Pvt) Ltd recently signed an agreement with the BOI to provide domestic helicopter services and air cargo services to tourists and locals within the country. A subsidiary of the Daya Group of Companies, this project was initiated for inter-company servicing within the group, and to enable buyers from overseas to visit the factories out of the city. The company is now offering its services to local industries and is also considering charter flights to all parts of the island. "We also provide exclusive air cargo services if required", Managing Director, Daya Group Mrs. Anoma Gamage said. The US made aircraft has a 4-seat capacity in addition to the two pilots, and has completed several flights to and from Ampara, Sevanagala and Weerawila. Investing Rs. 43 million for one year, the company aims at reducing managerial time and thereby enhancing industry competitiveness within the country. Group Director, Mahinda Wijesundera said that he hoped this initiative of this by the private sector, would one day culminate in the establishment of privately owned air fields, due to the restrictions imposed on present air force controlled air bases within the country, which are geared for more service-oriented operations than for commercial services. |
