Dialog to power Paralympics

Six competitors in athletics, weightlifting, swimming and wheelchair tennis will represent Sri Lanka at the forthcoming Paralympics 2004 to be held in Athens, Greece. Dialog GSM will power the Sri Lankan contingent for the Paralympics Games.

This is the second consecutive Paralympic contingent sponsored exclusively by Dialog GSM which has also been the main sponsor of the Sri Lanka contingent to the Athens and Sydney Olympics.

Several of Sri Lanka's handicapped athletes who have distinguished themselves in the global sporting arena with timings and record equalling the achievements of mainstream competitors are slotted to demonstrate their calibre at the 2004 Paralympics.

Dr. Hans Wijesuriya Chief Executive Officer of Dialog GSM speaking at a media briefing yesterday said Dialog GSM is committed to enriching the potential of the differently able and that they have over the past several years been actively engaged in elevating the profile of handicapped sports in Sri Lanka.

He further said that Dialog GSM is honoured to be associated with the Sri Lanka Paralympics contingent and wished them all the success in their bid for paralympic glory.

Dr. Wijesuriya sincerely hoped that their support for disabled sports in this country has helped in some small measurer at least to motivate and inspire these courageous individuals who have broken the barriers of their respective physical disabilities and reached competitive excellence locally and internationally.

Also present at the media briefing were Chirantha de Zoysa (Assistant Manager Promotions and Sports Marketing Dialog GSM), Nishantha Wickremaratne (Marketing Manager Dialog GSM), Major Rajitha Ampemohotti (President National Federation of Sports for the Disabled), Captain Lakshman Karawitage (Secretary National Federation of Sports for the Disabled) and Upali Jayawardena representing the Ministry of Sports.

Dialog GSM has been a prominent sponsor of Sri Lankan sports and is committed to developing talent in Sri Lanka to international standards.

The company is closely associated with school cricket, athletics, rugby, disabled sports, rowing and motor racing and has sponsored national contingents to the Olympics as well as international events such as the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian Athletic championships and SAF Games.
