The Association of Ministers Personal Staff (AMPS) has decided to extend their fullest cooperation towards the attempts made by the Government to develop the country. The AMPS came to this unanimous decision following a discussion held in Colombo recently presided by the AMPS Chairman Gamini Gunasekera who is the Media Secretary to Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama. The association has been set up to assist the Government in its development attempts and provide welfare measures to the members of the AMPS, a media release issued by the AMPS said. Addressing the executive committee meeting, the AMPS National Organiser and Convenor Ajith Jayasundara who is the Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister's Media Secretary said the association will extend its fullest support for all socio, economic and cultural development programmes of the Government. In addition, the AMPS will also act to safeguard the people's rights and public welfare while assisting to minimise fraud and waste in the State sector. He said under the Government's efforts to preserve the country's culture and morality, the AMPS will also conduct countrywide seminars and workshops to educate youth on this programme. Creating proper coordination among ministries is also one of the key objectives of the Association. The AMPS has also made arrangements to implement a long term welfare programme to cater to the needs of its members. The AMPS as an immediate measure to assist the Government has appointed a special committee to look into the services rendered to the public through State institutions and the maximum potential of the resources each Ministry has for the public welfare, he said. He said in order to ensure a continuation of the activities of the association even in the event of a change of Government, the association has formulated a national level programme agreeable to every section. A decision was also taken to summon the AGM of the AMPS next month and implement this national level programme. AMPS Secretary David Muller, Treasurer Kumaradasa Giribawa and all executive members were also present. |
