Lions to help drought victims by Sandasen Marasinghe The Lions Club will distribute dry rations among 6000 drought victim families, in Medirigiriya today and tomorrow. The District Governor of The International Association of Lions Clubs District 306 C, Lion Kassapa Mahendra de Silva said they had specially picked families with children under the age of seven. Each family would be offered a pack containing rice, flour, sugar, milk powder, dhal, Soya and tinned fish, bottles of water and cans will also be distributed among them. Each pack is worth nearly Rs 1000. He stated that public contributions were collected by all 98 branches of the Lions Club in the country. Lion K. D. K. Wijenayaka, Cabinet Secretary of International Association of Lions Clubs District 306 C said Sevanagala Sugar Industry contributed 5000 kgs. of sugar while CIC fertilisers contributed 6000 kgs. of sugar. Highland Milk Powder Company also contributed 1000 packets of one kg. milk powder packets and Raigam food products also made their contribution of 6000 kg. of Raigam Soya. He said Scan Products contributed 5000 1.5 litre bottles of mineral water. The Polonnaruwa Lions Club made their contribution by 18,000 kgs. of rice. They will reach the centres at Medirigiriya along with the Divisional Secretary, to which the families have been asked to gather to get their dry rations. |
