Scheme to train nutritionists

The Wayamba University in a move to meet the acute shortage of nutritionists in the governmental hospitals has launched a program of training BSC qualified graduates in nutrition in the government hospitals.

The first batch of ten of these graduate trainees who are to be attached to the Colombo National Hospital and a few other major hospitals in the country will be meeting the Healthcare, Nutrition and Uva Wellassa Development Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on August 31 at his Ministry.

The scheme jointly sponsored by the Novartis Nutrition and the Nutrition Society of the Wayamba University will bear all expenses of the program including the salaries for the graduates, thus relieving the government of any financial burden to be borne on the scheme.
