'Loku' to replace Murali

Right-arm leg-spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi will replace injured off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in next month's ICC Champions trophy tournament in England.

The 22-year-old cricketer from Bloomfield distinguished himself in the on-going one-day international series against South Africa to edge out rival spinner Rangana Herath for the vacant spot.

Lokuarachchi got the nod on the strength of his ability to bat as well as field apart from his bowling. He has 12 wickets (avg. 22.75) from nine one-day international appearances and returned after a recent tour to England with the Sri Lanka 'A' team where he contributed a blistering career best 91 off 72 deliveries against Somerset at Taunton.

Muralitharan picked for the tournament pulled out with an injured right shoulder, which was operated in Melbourne 11 days ago. He has been ruled out of competitive cricket until January next year.
