| News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | 2000 vacancies in Agriculture Ministry to be filled by Uditha Kumarasinghe The Agriculture Ministry has made arrangements to fill the existing 2000 labour vacancies in the Ministry. Agriculture, Livestock and Lands Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake has already informed the Ministry Secretary Tissa Warnasuriya to make a request from the Treasury to allocate funds to fill these 2000 vacancies of labourers in the Agriculture Ministry with immediate effect, a Ministry spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. Steps are now being taken by the Minister to immediately fill these vacancies once the Treasury gives its approval, he said. The Heads of the research institutions under the Agriculture Ministry have informed Minister Dissanayake that various problems have arisen in research institutions due to shortage of manual labour. Following a study made on this, the Minister has instructed the Ministry Secretary to make arrangements to fill these 2000 labour vacancies, he said. Minister Dissanayake has instructed the Ministry officials to immediately recruit 200 Agriculture Instructors through an examination to fill these vacancies. Therefore, the Ministry has decided to fill these 200 vacancies before the year 2005. All these recruitment will be made according to the district basis, he said. |
