by Nadira Gunatilleke A commemorative week will take place at Moneragala from September 20 to 26 to mark the 45th death anniversary of former Prime Minister S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike under the direction of Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena, a spokesman for the Minister said. He said a blood donation campaign and an ayurvedic medical clinic will be held with the participation of all ayurvedic doctors in the Moneragala district during the commemorative week. Books will be donated to several school libraries, while a foundation stone will be laid for the Moneragala High Courts complex. Awards will be presented to winners of poetry and essay competition on the Bandaranaike philosophy. A Bandaranaike commemorative lecture and ceremony will be held at Mahanama Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Moneragala on September 26. The Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Ministry will organise a mobile service to mark the event. Arrangements have been made to provide spectacles, crutches and wheelchairs for the disabled. Religious ceremonies will take place on September 26 at Weliyaya Siri Piyarathana Pirivena. Minister Jayasena, Uva Province Chief Minister Gamini Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa, Poverty Alleviation Deputy Minister Jagath Pushpakumara and provincial council ministers and scholars will participate. |
