Talking point

The good old professori who has now earned a well-known reputation for putting his foot in the mouth has, according to reports from Moratuwa - the electorate which he nurses but shies away from contesting - has really this time put his foot in it.

The residents say that the lean and hungry looking self-professed pundit had to bolt for cover and beat a hasty retreat back to Colombo after violence broke out when a one percent interest loan scheme to carpenters which he had organised through a well-known finance company turned into a fiasco.

According to these residents three of the professorist's henchmen had distributed the loans only to a favoured section of the carpenters while the others were left high and dry. This finally ended in a rumpus which some claim ended in fisticuffs between two sections of the UNP at the municipal council.
