No involvement of security forces in Pullumalai attack, says Ministry An LTTE camp in the general uncleared area of Pullumalai, about 35 km southwest of Batticaloa had allegedly come under attack believed to be from a breakaway group of the LTTE on September 7 around 10.30 p.m., the Operational Headquarters of the Defence Ministry said yesterday. At least eight LTTE cadres, believed to be from LTTE Wanni faction had been killed and one LTTE cadre had reportedly received injuries in the attack, according to some pro-LTTE media and website reports. Some reports claimed that Sri Lanka army commandos were responsible for the attack. Special Task Force troops and police personnel on duty in the closest proximity to the place of the incident (about 2 km west of Pullumalai) in cleared areas deny any involvement in this attack and confirm that no service personnel were involved as alleged by the reports. The Army said there is no deployment of security forces found in the area where the incident occurred. |
