He said they were optimistic that the UPFA Government would allocate more funds from the budget to develop the estate sector. "It is very important for us to provide infrastructure facilities to estate communities as this is lacking in estates," Sivalingam said. "The estate community lacks proper housing, sanitation, healthcare, water facilities, road networks, education, and cultural activity in order to develop the quality of their life," he said. Sivalingam said there were 3,000 unemployed youth living in estates. The Minister said they had discussions with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga about these conditions who instructed them to come up with projects to develop conditions of infrastructure in estates to upgrade the estate community. Asked if any project proposals had been submitted, he said the ministry was preparing several projects. |
