President leaves to address UN General Assembly

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga left for the United States yesterday to address the 59th sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake will act as Minister of Defence during her absence.

The President's other three Cabinet portfolios will be administered till her return by Minister Mangala Samaraweera, School Education, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Higher Education and Minister D. E. W. Gunasekera, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Reconciliation, a press release from the Office of the President said yesterday.
