The pilot program of this project is to be held in Maharagama Division of Sri Jayawardanapura zone and Panagari Division of the Kilinochchi zone. The program of Maharagama Division will start at the Kottawa Vidyadana Maha Vidyalaya today at 10. 00 a.m. Provincial Education Director of Western Province Dickson Fernando, Japanese Embassador for Sri Lanka Akio Suda, JICA expert Prof. N. Osumi and Director General of the National Institute of Education Prof. Jagath Wickramasinghe will participate at the inaugural program. JICA Sri Lanka has planned to distribute 92 high quality chalkboards among the primary classes of Level 2 and 3 Schools of Maharagama Division and 121 high quality chalkboards among the primary classes in the Kilinochchi Division. These chalkboards are attractive and useful to children and if handled properly they are guaranteed for ten years, JICA said in a press release. Chalkboard supplying is the first step of this project. The second will be the supplying of fully equipped model primary classrooms for selected schools. 'JICA' expert Prof. N. Osumi said they hope to minimise problems of primary students in Sri Lanka by these projects and to mould a better personality in them. |
