Asked about his views on the proposed Advisory and Reconciliation Council, he told the Daily News that a Deployment Council would be a better option. Dr. Karunaratne said although Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had said that talks should be based on ISGA proposals of the LTTE and the 2002 Oslo declaration, it would be important to see that a Peace Deployment Council is established on the basis of devolution of power, leave alone the ISGA proposals. He said it was necessary to form a Peace Deployment Council with the participation of those political parties which support principles of power sharing to resolve the crisis. "This Council should not comprise those factions which are opposed to power sharing," he said. |
