The National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) organised the country pavilion for the 13th consecutive year at the Hong Kong Jewellery and Watch Fair from September 19 to 25 in Hong Kong. The “NGJA Pavilion” was opened by Dr. Thomas H. E. Cheung, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Hong Kong. Chairman, National Gem and Jewellery Authority, Asoka Jayawardane officiated at the pavilion.

Austerity measures for conservation:

CEB to supply 80% of requirement by 2010

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) would supply 80 percent of the total electricity requirement of the country in six years, said the Minister of Power and Energy Susil Premajayantha. Speaking at a ceremony organised by Small Hydro Power Generators last Friday he said that the CEB supplies 65 percent of power to the national grid. "This is not sufficient and the CEB has taken measures to increase this to 80 per cent by 2010," he said.
