GUWAHATI, India, Sunday (AFP) India's northeast was in a state of shock after at least 44 people died
and 118 were wounded in one of the deadliest waves of violence in the
insurgency-infested region in years. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he
deplored the spate of attacks Saturday in neighbouring Nagaland and Assam
states that occurred as Indians marked the 135th anniversary of the birth
