Binupa, Bo and Niloo steal the limelight by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Correspondent at Rajawella Binupa Wijesinghe (Men's Gross Division), Expatriate Bo Lindberg (Men's Nett Division) and the versatile Niloo Jayatillake (Ladies Division) stole the honours at the fourth round of the Lectra Monthly Medal Golf Championships organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Lectra France Apparel Technologies and worked at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella. Victoria at last was blessed with rain and this made the course a little difficult and the golfers who had to play most part of their matches in rain had to use all their skills to come to terms with the course. Fourteen year old Binupa Wijesinghe - a student of Wycherly International School came up with a fine gross score of 81 to win the Mens Gross championship but he was given a difficult time by another schoolboy 14 year old Chamil Wickremasinghe from Ecole International School Digana who got a close 82 groos. The Mens Nett Championship was won by expatriate Bo Lindberg who at last came good with a respectable 67 and once again Chamil Wickremasinghe had to be content with the runner up berth with a close 70 nett. But Chamil Wickremasinghe hit back in the Boys Under 18 competition by winning it with a score of 70 Nett with Gateway International School (Kandy) Schoolboy Sampath Hemachandra as runner up with 71 nett. The Ladies title went to that versatile golfer Niloo Jayatillake who made 70 nett with another fine golfer Usha de Silva close on her heels with 71 nett. But the womens race is still led by Manouri Jayakody with 86 but Dinali de Zoysa and Dhanushi Senadeera are two lady golfers to be watched in the future competitions as they have made very good progress. |
