by Edward Arambewala Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital probing the death of a rabies victim has revealed that its Accident Service does not keep duplicates of chits given to dog bite victims to come for the second ARV injection. Hospital Director Dr. Wimal Jayantha is conducting the probe on a complaint by the 10-year-old girl's father alleging that his daughter died of rabies in August this year as the Hospital's doctors failed to give the girl, bitten by a stray dog, the course of injections. Dr. Jayantha told the Daily News that he started the preliminary inquiry by getting down the documents yesterday, and the proper inquiry would be held today. The probe has revealed that the hospital has not been keeping duplicates of chits issued to patients for follow up injections in cases of dog bite victims. He has ordered doctors to correct this. Dr. Jayantha said, the child's father in his letter had alleged that the doctors had not asked the child to be brought for the follow-up injections. But doctors say they had done so and given him the normal chit to come for the second injection, which the child's father is denying. Dr. Jayantha will record the child's fathers statement today. |
