Suspects further remanded by Sarath Malalasekera The Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena yesterday further remanded the four suspects in the killing of underworld gang leader Dhammikka Amarasinghe alias Dhammika Perera till October 25. The four suspects are Chaminda Udaya Kumara, an army deserter, Nihal Perera, Donald Ranjith Perera and S.A. Piyatissa alias Piyatissa. Earlier the Judge directed the CID to forward the items collected at the scene to the Government Analayst for a comprenshive report. The items collected at the scene included the weapon used by the assailant, one live bullet and seven spent bullets. Sub Inspector R.A.M. Rajapaksa of the Colombo Crimes Division yesterday filing a further report told court that the vehicle taken into custody is alleged to have been used by the suspect to commit the murder. Meanwhile, the Police are trying to ascertain the veracity of the lengthy statement made by the assassin Chaminda Udaya Kumara. Dhammika was killed while he was being taken out of Court Number 6 of the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on the morning, of January 9 after his case involving a double murder, was postponed on an application by his Counsel Anton Senanayake pending the decision of the Attorney General for a discharge. Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath is directing investigations conducted by Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) Director, Senior SP Sarath Lugoda with ASP Palitha Fernando, SI R.A.M. Rajapaksa and a team of CCD officers. |
