"I wish to congratulate you warmly on your appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs. You bring to your office a wealth of experience gained during an illustrious career in politics, government and Parliament. During my recently concluded official visit to Japan I reiterated my vision to broaden our already long-standing friendly relations. In particular, I discussed with your predecessor my wish to expand our cultural relations and to have a more regular exchange of scholars. In this connection we plan to hold next year in Tokyo and a few other major cities and exhibition of artifacts and other objects which represent the finest aspects of Sri Lanka's culture and heritage. I have no doubt that you would extend your support to these initiatives. I look forward to working closely with you in further strengthening our close cooperation. Accept, Excellency, the expression of my highest consideration and my best wishes for success in all your endeavours in this new office". |
