Bourse takes a breather The All Share Price Index (ASPI) which started at 1507.3 points moved down by 0.7 points to close at 1506.6 points yesterday. The Milanka Price Index (MPI) which started at 2157.2 points closed at the point without recording a gain or loss. HNB Stockbrokers said that shares worth 1,200,000 belonging to Aitken Spence changed hands. The buyers were foreigners. Other Stockbrokers said the market has taken a small breather as it was recording gains during the last few days and added that the market will go for profit taking during the next few days. The macro economic situation though not very positive, the boom in Sri Lanka's tourism has made the counters active. A total turnover of Rs. 306.8 million was recorded with a share volume of 12.2 million shares being traded. A total of 3,960 trades was executed. The Diversified sector accounted for 30% of the total turnover. Foreign investors were net sellers in the market with purchases of Rs. 21.5 million and sales of Rs. 41.2 million. Services, Oil Palm, Diversified and Footwear and Textiles sectors recorded significant gains while Investment Trust, Motors and Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals sectors moved down. Ceylinco Housing, Abans, Cargills, Central Finance and Colombo Land were among the top gainers while Statcon, LB Finance (warrants), Singer Industries and Colombo Fort Investments were among the top losers. |
