Police investigations into the murder of former Western Provincial Council Member Namal Gunawardene, points to it being a contract killing, Police told the Daily News yesterday. Police sources said that the two groups assigned to conduct special investigations into the killing of the WPC Member have been able to unearth important material in this regard. The SLFP appointed Namal Gunawardene as the SLFP Organiser for Mirigama after removing the former SLFP organiser and the killing took place five days of his appointment. By now the Police have questioned a number of persons in this regard and former MP Sarana Gunawardene was one of them whom the police questioned with regard to the killing of WPC Member. |
