Police quiz SB Sunday, Monday for ten hours

Police last Sunday and Monday interrogated former Samurdhi Minister S. B. Dissanayake for a total of ten hours in connection with their investigations into an alleged multi million rupee Samurdhi social security fraud.

The Samurdhi social security was a fund founded on the savings of the Samurdhi beneficiaries. With the advent of the present Government, investigations were initiated on these alleged acts of fraud and corruption.

When the UNF after forming the Government in December 2001 nominated S. B. Dissanayake to the portfolio of Samurdhi,President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga withheld its ratification due to the alleged frauds.

When investigations commenced into the alleged frauds in the Samurdhi fund recently, former Samurdhi Director General Kumari Navaratne who was due to be interrogated was found to have left the island.
