Minister of Buddhasasana and Deputy Minister of Public Security Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said in Bulathsinhala that the government has allowed any development project estimated below Rs. 500,000 could be carried out by registered local bodies or persons without calling for tenders. He has found that such development projects had not yet been started because of the delay in calling for tenders and selecting suitable contactors. He was speaking at the monthly progress meeting of the Bulathsinhala and Madurawala Divisional Secretariats held at the Bulathsinhala auditorium on Monday. The Minister also said, 'From the progress reports I have seen most development projects for which money has been set apart by MPs and Provincial Council members have not yet been started as they have not been passed by the respective Ministries. This shows much delay in starting these projects on schedule as a Minister I okeyed them here and you are requested to start and complete them before the end of the year. We organise discussions of this nature not to find fault with you but to find out the difficulties and help you to overcome them successfully. As responsible officers you should take interest in your responsibilities and finish the projects as early as possible. If the proposed projects can't be worked out before the year end, the allocations will go to the Treasury. If the allocations are neglected it is a great injustice to the people of the area, he said. "I am not satisfied with the progress of electricity projects. Most of them are idling. So I must speak to the higher officers of CEB and instruct them to complete the proposed projects", he said. |
