The Malaysian High Commissioner in Colombo Nazeera Binti Huzain visited some selected underdeveloped areas in the Colombo District recently. She made this tour at the request of the Democratic Unity Alliance (DUA) states a Malaysian High Commission's press release. The DUA's Secretary-General Hafiz Nazeer Ahmaed briefed the High Commissioner about the shortcomings of the people who are living in the slum ares where educational, housing and health sector facilities have to be improved and special attention should be focused on the under-privileged women to provide self-employment opportunities. He also made a special request to set up a low-cost housing scheme for slum area people with the assistance of the Malaysian government. The Malaysian High Commissioner has assured that she would initially make all possible assistance to renovate damaged Matharasas (Arabic Schools), Mosques and other requests made by the Secretary-General would be forwarded to the Malaysian Government for necessary action. The DUA's delegation included the Chairman of the party M.I. Uthumalebe, Western Provincial Councillor and the DUA's national Organizer A.J.M. Muzammil, Treasurer of the Party Dr. Yousuf K. Maraikkar, Deputy-Secretary General Khalid M. Farouk and National Coordinating Secretary Sham Nawaz. |
