Indices up at Bourse The market moved up significantly yesterday with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) appreciating by 9.5 points while the Milanka Price Index (MPI) moved up by 23.5 points. The ASPI closed at 1,488.8 points while the MPI closed at 2,114.8 points. Even though the indices moved up the market remained dull with only 1,598 trades being concluded during the day's trading. A total turnover of Rs 121.7 million was recorded with a share volume of 6.9 million shares being traded. The Diversified Sector accounted for nearly 44% of the total turnover for the day. Banks Finance and Insurance, Footwear and Textiles, Telecommunications and Investment Trusts sectors recorded noteworthy gains while Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals and Land and Property sectors recorded main negative growths. The top gaining stocks were Ceylinco Insurance, Asian Cotton Mills, Connaissance, Colombo Land and Ceylon Hotels Corporations. |
