Clarifying questions in a letter to the Editor, The Island, the Education Ministry states:

"I am writing to clarify some questions raised by one of your reporters, concerning a special training program conducted by the Ministry. This training program on motivation, Human Resource Management and work ethics were conducted at the Ministry of Education on the President's instructions.

Dhammika Kalapuge, Chartered Marketer, Dip.M, MCIM (UK), AFAMI, FABE (UK), MMIS, MSLIM, formerly Vice President (Marketing) of the DFCC has been an experienced trainer in both public and private sector. During the last four years, Kalapuge has been engaged by the Presidential Secretariat, Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, The Treasury, the Ministry of Education and many other leading public and private sector organisations for special training programs of this nature due to his competence and high reputation in this field.

There are thousands of people who have benefitted out of this program. Soon after the new government came into power, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga engaged Kalapuge for a special training program for the entire Cabinet of Ministers owing to the high acceptance of the program she gave instructions to all Ministries to use his expertise.

The Ministry of Education program targetting all the officials, Provincial education Authorities. school Principals and the Presidents of the National Colleges of Education commenced a few months ago using the allocation assigned for training from the Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Kalapuge's fees for these special program were paid from this particular project and were approved by the Treasury".

If not, how much do you pay him?

Are you aware that he boasts that he has failed GCE(AL) four times in science, but, succeeded in life? How many times is a person allowed to sit for this examination? Hasn't he violated the regulations governing the said examination?
