Duty to dedicate yourself to national cause - Major Gen. tells recruits by D.C. de Silva, Kahawa special corr. The passing out of 270 Army recruits of the 53rd intake took place on Saturday, November 20 at the Boossa Army Training Centre. Major General, P. B. W. Jayasundara was the chief guest on the occasion. Major General Jayasundara taking the ceremonial salute by the recruits, told the gathering of parents of the recruits, that, "he had no hesitation to commend the decision taken by the parents to permit their children to join the Army at this critical juncture when the country and nation have faced a crisis. He said, "Sri Lanka Army at the outset was a mere ceremonial Army, but now it has turned into a fighting unit, and the Army has fought against separatists for the past two decades." The Major Gen. said, from today your bounden duty is to dedicate your experience, knowledge, time and energy for the national cause, to keep the motherland a unitary State forever. He concluded, you were trained with the intention to add more strength to the Army with mentally and physically fit personnel equipped with interest, dedication and loyalty, providing needy vocational and technical know-how, in order to perform your duty in warfare. |
