somewhere towards the end of 1961, or was it the early days of the
following year? I am not sure. But I am sure of the place. It was a long
veranda resting on high pillars and opening out into a spacious garden
rising up gently to meet the Galle road in Dehiwela. It was the ancestral
home of Lester James Peries, and also of the painter Ivan Peries. Other Stories
