SriLankan Air taxi flies to Ampara

by M.A. Phakurdeen - Addalaichenai Group Correspondent

In order to boost the tourists coming into Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Airlines is to conduct "Sea Plane Operation" to Kondawattuwan tank in Ampara.

It was brought to the notice that the tourists coming to East are facing lots of inconveniences in travelling to tourist resorts like Ullai, Arugambay birds' sanctuary, Kumuna and other places of historic importances. Understanding the poor plight of the tourists pouring into the East, SriLankan Airlines is on the move to this project.

A site survey of the tank has already been conducted by Sri Lankan Airlines with the approval of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka and the Government Agent of Ampara. The study has concluded that the location is feasible for the operation of the amphibian aircraft accordingly.

The Sea Plane Operation supposed to be the Sri Lanka's fourth operational destination, held its test landing and take-off at Ampara Kondawattuwan tank recently.

The Sri Lankan Airlines Flight Operation Manager-Aircraft Performances Suranjan de Silva, Manager Technical Fligt Operations and Special Projects Athula Dissanayake and Civil Aviation Authority's Aerodrome Inspector Y. Amarsekera who arrived at Kondawattuwan Tank held discussions with the Central Environmental Authority's Ampara Region's Asst. Director M.A.C. Najeeb, Wild Life Conservation Department's Asst. Director (Eastern Region) S.P.A.G.V. Samarakone and Irrigation Department's Officials on environmental pollution, impact on the drinking water, the effects on the wildlife closer to the tank and breading ground of the fish.

The Airlines Officials took the Ampara District Officials connected to this area and showed the Sea plane and its landing, take-off and other advantages of the flight.
