180 children for mountain biking championship 180 children from three age groups will take part in the Mountain Biking Championship which will be conducted in March, 2005. 30 boys and 30 girls each in the under-13, 15 and 17 age groups will take part in the championships which will be worked off at Marawila on March 16, Trincomalee on March 21 and Kilinochchi on March 24.The Mountain Biking Championship which is confined to children from Sri Lanka only is being organised by the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka, Asian German Sports Exchange Programme, and UNICEF with the blessings of the Ministry of Education. The intention of conducting this championship is to promote mountain biking among the children of Sri Lanka and to bring about understanding and friendship between Sinhalese and Tamil children which would help to achieve peace in the country. A volleyball tournament and seven-a-side football tournament for boys too will be conducted on March 21 in Trincomalee. Eight teams (four Sinhalese and four Tamil team each) will take part in the volleyball and soccer tournaments. Bicycles for the children will be provided by the CFSL in addition to meals and accommodation.
