Dialog to open 50 Communication centres in refugee camps

Dialog GSM has launched a project to provide a communication centre to each refugee camp enabling the stranded persons to make telephone calls free of charge.

The company has initially allocated Rs 10 million for the project and has already set up centers in 20 places around the country, Dialog GSM's Chief Executive Dr. Hans Wijesuriya said adding that 30 more centers will be opened within the next three days.

The project which is being implemented in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, was launched in Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Killinochchi yesterday.

Ceylon Chamber of Commerce

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) has arranged for the immediate needs in the form of goods to be accepted at the James Finlay Stores, No. 186 Vauxhall Street, Colombo 2, between 9 am and 6 pm. Russel Gunewardene, of James Finlay (Tel - 4725298) will coordinate the acceptance of goods.

Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka

The Institution of Engineers (IESL), Sri Lanka has sought the services of volunteer engineers to form teams that would go to the affected areas to assist together with the local administrations and technical services to restore essential services such as sanitation and water shelter.

The institution calls upon all engineers to join this effort to contact IESL on 0112698426, 0112699210, 0112 685490 immediately.

Bank of Ceylon

The Bank of Ceylon has made arrangements assist those who are affected by the disaster including its staff in these areas.

The welfare society of the Bank has formed a special committee to provide relief to those affected. Those who are keen to contribute could contact 011-2445806,011-2389126, 011-2386856.

Chamber of Construction Industry

The Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka is appealing to the members of the domestic construction Industry to provide all assistance that is required in this hour of need.

The members of the Domestic Construction Industry are requested to provide donations in the form of dry rations, drinking water, medicines and clothing which will be accepted at the Chamber Secretariat for forward transmission.

LIOC donates Rs.20 million

Indian Oil Company's Vice President Paneeth Ahumal donated Rs 20. Million to the Prime Minister Mahainda Rajapakse at the Temple Trees in aid of victims of the tidal wave.

Apollo assists victims

Apollo Hospitals in Colombo and Chennai have deployed several resources to assist the victims of Sunday's disaster that devastated the Southern Asian coastal regions.

To further assist in the national crisis, Apollo Hospitals Chennai has contributed medical equipment and materials worth over Rs. 1 million for use in easing the suffering of disaster victims.

SriLankan telephone sales open 24 hours

SriLankan Airlines will keep telephone sales open twenty-four hours over the next two days, for the convenience of passengers. Phone lines 242 1161, 019733 5500 and 019733 3344 will be open for reservation inquiries twenty-four hours on December 28 and 29.
