Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday visited Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara districts in the Eastern province to monitor relief assistance to the affected areas following reports that there had been a delay in search and rescue efforts. The sudden visit was arranged in the morning and the party leaders meeting that was to be held at the Temple Trees at 9.30 am was also cancelled due to this change of plans. He was accompanied by JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa, Archbishop Oswald Gomes and TNA Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham. The Prime Minister spoke to Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B.Jayasundera before his departure to discuss financial arrangements for relief assistance in the North East areas and has met MPs, district Secretaires and relief coordinating officials in the three districts. |
