The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House) and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation have jointly inaugurated a Voluntary Services Operation Centre to consolidate relief activities relating to rehabilitation of the devastated areas with the assistance of various benevolent organizations and individuals. The Centre will operate as a voluntary establishment focusing attention on the reconstruction of dwellings and buildings and the rehabilitation of areas that were devastated by the tidal wave disaster of December 26. It will fill a void consequent upon the absence of a similar endeavour by other organizations that are presently concerned with the provision of immediate relief. This Voluntary Operation Centre calls upon multiple voluntary organizations including sports clubs and similar institutions scattered throughout the island to inform the newly established Centre about the services they are capable of towards this end. The centre will make prompt arrangements to direct such benefactors to the locations of their choice where they could render the services they are capable of. Volunteers may contact the Voluntary Operations Secretariats of the Lake House or the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation to ascertain the nature of services needed by the victims and any further particulars. Address: Voluntary Operations Secretariat, Lake House, No. 35, D. R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10. Telephone No. 2429242, Fax. 2429600, email help@lakehouse.lk or Voluntary Operations Secretariat, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Baudhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7, Telephone 5375847, 5375848, Fax. 5375844. |
