China expresses sympathy on devastation caused by tsunami

President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao in a message to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, states:

Excellency, "I was shocked to learn that some parts of your country was seriously hit by the tidal waves, causing huge loss of many lives and extensive devastation to property. On behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name, I wish to express our deep sympathy to you, and to the people directly affected by the tragedy, and our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.

I believe, under the leadership of Your Excellency, that the Government and people of Sri Lanka will surely defeat the disaster, conquer the difficulties, rebuild the homes and restore the life of the affected areas back to normal".
