Charities is rushing its manager for the Asian region Stanley Swan to discuss with the government the areas of foreign assistance needed to help victims of the tidal wave havoc caused to the country on Sunday. The country director of the L.D.S. (Latter Day Saints) charities in Colombo Don Benton told a press briefing in Colombo yesterday "We are deeply saddened with what happened to a large section of the poor people living in the Southern and Northern coastal belt of Sri Lanka. We want to do the maximum possible in this situation", he said. He said Swan who is expected in Colombo tomorrow will meet Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister Sumedha Jayasena and discuss the issue. Last week, LDS Charities gifted 500 wheel chairs for the disabled through the Rotary Club of Colombo. |
