Japan provides US$30 m as emergency support for Tsunami disaster The Government of Japan has allocated a sum of US $ 30 million to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Indonesia and other countries that have been most affected by the Tsunami tidal wave. These funds are provided as part of Japan's humanitarian assistance towards emergency relief and rehabilitation for the affected people in countries in need, states a Japanese Embassy press release. Close relatives of Minister dead Five close relatives of Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda including his father-in-law Edward Ratnayake, two sisters-in-law and two other small children have been killed in Sunday's tidal wave. Their bodies were kept at the Jayaratne Funeral parlour yesterday from 9.30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The funerals will take place at the Borella General Cemetery at 10 a.m. today. Schools re-opening postponed All schools scheduled to re-open for the new academic year on January 3, 2005, will not re-open on this day. The new date for re-opening schools will be notified later, the Ministry of Education said yesterday. |
