Indika and Vijitha win SUNFO marathon SUNFO (Sri Lanka-United Nations Friendship Organisation) organised a marathon at Kandy recently to commemorate United Nations World Human Rights Day. This marathon had four events and winners of the marathon as follows: Under-18 girls: 1. Miss K. M. Anusha Darshanee, 2. Miss A. M. A. Kumari, 3. Miss S. M. Nishanthi Kumari. Over-18 women: 1. Ms H. M. Vijitha Herath, 2. Ms B. G. Lakmini Anuradhi, 3. Ms L. K. C. D. Perera. Under-18 boys: 1. R. A. D. Jayarathne, 2. K. A. Asanka Kumara, 3. A. D. C. P. Thilakarathne. Over-18 men: 1. Ubendra Indika, 2. W. M. C. I. Wijekoon, 3. M. Ajantha. A large number of athletes from all parts of the country, participated for this event, started from Getambe grounds at 8 a.m. Among them over 100 athletes completed the event successfully. Trophies, certificates, medals and cash prizes were given to winners and all who completed the event were given a certificate. Prize giving ceremony was held at the Human Rights Day commemorating ceremony at Getambe grounds on the same day. SUNFO Director General Peace Ambassador Dr. Deshapriya S. Wijetunge, Deputy Mayor of Kandy L. B. Aluvihare, Project Chairman Shanthi Ratnayake, Udunuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Dudley Amarasinghe, Chief Organiser Sarath Jayawardena, Project Director Janaka Liyanage Marathon Organisers Gamini Galgamuwa, Manoj Fernando, Dr. Ashoka Dangolla, K. S. Rohitha, S. M. M. Nauffal and Duminda Wijerathne were among special guests at the awards presentation and Human Rights Day commemoration ceremony. David Peries Motor Company, Plan International, Milco, Brothers of Charity and Interpharm Ltd were sponsors of the event. Media sponsor was Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. |
