Prima can meet flour demand

Minister of Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Rohitha Bogollagama who undertook a mission to the Prima Factory at Trincomalee on Tuesday on behalf of the Government to ensure a regular and continued supply of wheat flour for the people said that "we need not have any fear of wheat flour shortages as Prima could meet the requirements as done in the past".

After having discussions with the Prima Management the Minister said that he is satisfied that adequate stocks are available at the factory and that a shipment of 67,000 metric tons is arriving in the country. There is around 2,500 metric tons of flour being milled per day and the factory is in the process of issuing these quantities.

The Minister said that the only handicap experienced by the factory was due to the non-availability of labour coming from Kinniya as the area has been affected by the tidal waves. Shortcomings associated with the manpower requirement have now been eased since the deployment of the Sri Lanka Navy to do the loading and the stitching of bags.

Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Jeyaraj Fernandopulle has ensured that all requirements of food including flour would be met in the country. Bogollagama said that the Minister of Transport Felix Perera has agreed to provide facilities for distribution of flour through the railways and distribution through lorries and containers is being carried out. There are over 100 containers at the Prima Factory waiting for loading.

Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thera, MP. Lin Hsin Hui, General Manager, Prima Ceylon Ltd. were also associated with the Minister.
