Lanka Bell in four-pronged relief program

Lanka Bell has initiated a four-pronged relief program to establish communication with people in some of the worst affected areas. A 24-hour Bell Message Centre will accept telephone, fax and e-mail messages from tourists as well as locals and transmit them free to any foreign destination.

Lanka Bell has set up a call-centre infrastructure with many lines and operators to service the high volume of traffic expected especially during the initial period. The number is 011-5375200. This Bell Message Centre can also be contacted by fax (011-5375201) or e-mail (bmc@bellmail.lk).

Lanka Bell has despatched installation teams to set up free call centres with wireless local loop connections in key places on the Southern coast such as Matara, Weligama, Galle and Ambalangoda. These also cover temporary camps for displaced persons. The free telephone lines will help people in such areas to communicate with their friends and relatives and also to request any urgent help needed from the relief organisations.
