ICASL scholarship scheme for students affected by tsunamis The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) has launched a scholarship scheme with an initial contribution of Rs. 1 million for students affected by the tsunamis which ravaged the coastal areas of the country and donated a further Rs 1 million to assist victims. The scholarship scheme was set up by the Council of ICASL to ensure the continuation of studies of accountancy students at the Institute despite the death of either of the parents. The Council has also decided to allow all affected students who have applied for the January 2005 examination to carry forward the relevant fees to the next examination due to the current situation in the country. Caterpillar donates $ 1m Caterpillar is extremely saddened by the enormous loss of life and destruction of property following the December 26 earthquake in Indonesia and the resulting tsunamis that spread across much of the Indian Ocean. The Caterpillar Foundation is committing $ 1 million to ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the region. In addition, donations to relief efforts by Caterpillar employees, retirees, Caterpillar directors and employees of Caterpillar dealers will be matched by Caterpillar up to $ 2,000 per person. The process for reporting these gifts will be communicated to employees later this week. |
