Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse assured to support the Muslims who were victims in the recent Tsunami Disaster in the country. His assurance of support was conveyed to the Muslim delegation from the Coordinating Centre for Relief and Rehabilitation (CCRR) who met the PM in Temple Trees on Wednesday. The delegation explained to the PM the plight and problems of the Muslim victims. The delegation was headed by Minister of Environment and Natural Resources A.H.M. Fowzi and comprised President Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum N.M. Ameen Moulavi A.L.M. Ibrahim (Serendib Research Centre), Moulavi M.S.M. Fazal (Sri Lanka Jamathe Islami), Haleemdeen (All Ceylon YMMA Conference) Hilmy Sulaiman (Al-Kafala Foundation), Rasheed M. Imtiyaz (All Ceylon Muslim League Youth Front), Mr. A. Hilmy Mohamed (Media Link), Mr. S.M. Faris (Muslim Information Centre), M.M. Zulfick and Fariz Fouz (Al.kafala Foundation). The PM told the delegation that he is working vigilantly in securing the historical places of Muslims where they lived for generations and is giving special attention to safeguard the rights and properties of the minorities in Hambantota District, Cleaning activities in the tsunami affected areas will be carried forward. Necessary plants, equipment and labour will be sent to the Eastern Province, assured the PM. He also told that plans are afoot to reconstruct the affected cities with the help of the professionals. Requests for funds for the reconstruction works have been made from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other countries. |
