Extra US$ 20 million from China

China yesterday pledged an additional US$20 million in aid to help victims of the tsunami disaster, raising its total contributions to 83 million dollars as it seeks to play a prominent role in the region.

"At the call of the United Nations, China has decided to provide an additional 20 million US dollars, in addition to what it has already promised, to be used for multilateral rescue and reconstruction," Premier Wen Jiabao told a summit of world leaders meeting to discuss the disaster.
