Scrap 'red line', UNP tells Govt

by Ariyaratne Ganegoda and Nirushi Wimalaweera

UNP MP and former Public Adminstration Minister Vajira Abeywardena has appealed to the Government to be lenient with Government servants office attendance and to scrap the 'red line' penalising late attendance until normality is reached following the tsunami disaster.

This is in view of the displacement of a large number of public servants and the disruption of transport and other factors following the devastation, he told a press briefing at the Opposition Leader's Office in Colombo.

The MP said most homes belonging to public servants which were destroyed were built from housing loans and urged that the state forgo these loans in view of the victims' tragedy.
