Texas Scramble golf begins

By Kandy sports correspondent

Golf at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort fired off for the New Year with a Stableford competition in the form of Texas Scramble which was off to a shot gun start at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella.

Once again the golfers were greeted by excellent weather conditions with cool breeze blowing across the course and the conditions made even cooler by the Victoria reservoir which skirts this beautiful course.

The course looked green and immaculate with the fairways being well maintained. But the course proved to more challenging than ever and it was very difficult off the rough. The skilled golfers had no difficulty in coming to terms but others had a tough time.

This foursome championship was won by Sam Gunaratne, Chris Holloway, Mike Morley and K. Holloway by aggregating a nett score of 74.

There are two important golf competitions this month namely the Ananda Golf Championship which will be held for the third successive year if all goes well.

Then there will be also the Eight round of the Lectra Monthly medal golf championship.
