by Rajmi Manatunga The National Lotteries Board (NLB) yesterday launched a new lottery to raise funds for the welfare of Sri Lankans affected by the tsunami waves. The new lottery named 'Sarana National Lottery' is expected to raise around Rs 35 million in its first draw to be held on February 4 and will be drawn on a monthly basis. NLB Chairman Cyril Gunapala told the media that all earnings of the lottery will be forwarded to the Government's rehabilitation program for tsunami victims. Gunapala said the NLB has decided to bear the promotional expenses of the new lottery which in the normal course is deduced from the earnings of the lottery. "We have printed around 40,000 lottery tickets priced at Rs 20 each for the first draw. We request the public to contribute to the nation building program by buying these tickets," the Chairman added. |
