Chief Sangha Nayaka Thera passes away The Ven. Hubathgamuwe Sri Aththadassi, Chief Sangha Nayaka Thera of Dambadeni Hathpattuwa and Viharadhipathi, Sri Pushparama Raja Maha Viharaya, Ganegoda, Polgahawela passed away on January 8, aged 73 years. A retired teacher of the Chandanela Maha Pirivena, Pothuhera, Ven. Aththadassi has also worked as a visiting lecturer at the Vidyalankara University, Kelaniya and the Buddha Sravaka Dharma Peetaya, Anuradhapura. As President of the Polgahawela Shasanarakshaka Mandalaya and the Samagri Maha Sangha Sabha regional branch he had rendered indefatigable social and religious service to the region. He was also a reputed preacher of the Dhamma. The cremation will take place at the Polgahawela UC Grounds on January 12. ######### Information on buried bodies sought The public has been requested to inform the nearest police station of any information relating to the identity of buried bodies unidentified as victims of the tsunami tidal waves of December 26. The Operational Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence in a release said, these bodies had to be buried unidentified because they were badly decomposed. Special teams of foreign organisations have arrived in the island to gather data of dead foreigners and the Police Headquarters is conducting a census of dead tsunami victims, both local and foreign, release said. ######## One day's pay An Emergency Meeting of Crown Group of Companies, Kirulapone was convened and it was unanimously decided to contribute one day's pay of all employees of the group namely, Crown Security Service, Imagination / Advertising Crown Recruiting Agency (Pvt) Ltd; Marine Corps (Pvt) Ltd, Crown Tours and Crown Support Services, to be donated to the Employees whose families were directly affected by tsunami disaster. |
